For many reasons I think a person's first car should be manual. In this article we will touch on some of them. It’s more reliable, more “fun”, an important skill and helps stop distractions.
Reliable
A teens fist car should be able to get them from place to place and not break. Modern autos are unreliable and break and when that happens the driver is stuck. If a student can’t make it to school their grades will drop. If they can’t get to practice they may get cut.
Fun
When a teen gets a car there is an excitement that leads to speeding, crashes, and death. But sense manuals are more engaging that excitement can be met at slower speeds making the streets safer.
Important skill
There are many situations where you need to drive someone else’s car. Maybe a friend is impaired, someone needs help moving, or maybe you’re on a trip and rent a car. In many of these situations that car might be a manual and if you can’t drive it you’re in a bad situation.
Distractions
Teens are notorious for being on their phones while driving. Studies have shown driving on your phone is as dangerous as driving drunk. When you have to shift every 5-10 seconds you don’t have hands free to be on a phone.
In conclusion a teens first car should have a manual transmission so they have a more reliable, safer car while gaining a useful life skill.
